Business Ideas For Women At Home

In this article we take a look at business ideas for women at home potentially looking towards retirement or starting a lifestyle business.

For women over 50 the idea of getting out of the rat race and setting up a small business from home can be very appealing. The same can also be said of a woman who has dedicated her life to raising a family and now finds she has time on her side to consider opportunities.

Then there’s a retirement income to think about...

The reality is, it doesn’t matter a hoot whether you’re over 50, under 50 or whatever age you’re at.

Starting your own business is an exciting venture, and one that hopefully can transition into your retirement years and provide a comfortable living.

The classic mid 20th century picture of a couple retiring and living a comfortable life into old age is a pretty picture for sure, but the reality of the 21st Century is very different…

For thousands of women, seeing the retirement years ahead means starting to think about and making plans for retiring comfortably. Even if you have a husband or partner, you need to face the ‘what if’ scenario, as statistically women live longer than men.

Therefore, planning for your own life both financially and spiritually is something to seriously consider, and what better way than setting up a home based business that you have total control over.

Why a home based business?

A home based business is a great way to test small without financially crippling yourself.

The idea is to build income as quickly as possible and reinvest into growth, rather than setting up a bricks and mortar or franchise style business which requires a lot of upfront capital.

After all, there’re no prizes for going broke before you’ve even got started.

It’s also worth noting that running a business from home no longer has the same stigma attached to it that it had in the 70s and 80s.

Back in the day, if you operated a business from home you risked being seen as second-rate, like your business isn’t as successful as somebody with an office or shop.

These days working from home is regarded as a lifestyle choice and envied by so many people.

Plus, once you have your website set up then effectively that is your shop window to the world. That is the place where you can promote yourself as large or as niche as you like. Who’s to know?

And while I get that it’s probably not ideal to have clients coming to your home, there are so many businesses that don’t involve this.

When thinking of business ideas for women at home, consider these.

Business training – You visit the client.

Personal Fitness – You visit the client or rent a space.

Web Design and SEO – Mostly done on line, but you can visit the client if you wish.

Online Sales – Don’t even meet the client.

Online Affiliate Marketing – Potentially worldwide without meeting the customer.

Online Training and Coaching – Again, potentially worldwide and can be done by Skype if there needs to be 1 to 1 interaction.

Professional Services – Accountancy, Consultancy, SEO Services. You meet the client.

Of course there are lots of personal services such as hair, nails, beauty treatments, make up, massage etc, whereby traditionally the client visits the practitioner, but this can now be a mobile service to the client’s home or even by converting an outdoor space at home such as a garage or outbuilding.

It’s all perfectly normal and acceptable. These days people want quality, personal service, value, and the home based operation is perfect for this.

OK, so we mentioned some services above which are great for starting a cottage business.

You might even have a special skill or a talent yourself that you are thinking of promoting as a local service, and that’s great.

The first thing you need to do is get your business on line. Get it ready for showcasing so to speak.

I too have a local business that runs quite well with my affiliate marketing business. You could say I have a local business and a world-wide business, such is the reach and power of the internet.

Locally I offer a website and SEO building service, and world-wide I promote educational training on how to get started with your own affiliate/internet marketing business. (Get Started Here)

In addition I’m also a workplace health and safety practitioner where I offer information guidance and E-Learning training courses, and I have a small property portfolio.

So as you can tell, I’m a huge fan of multiple income streams all operated from my home office, and powered by the online skills I have learned over the last few years.

How easy is it to learn these skills?

I have to admit that I’ve learned a lot by making a lot of mistakes, investing in opportunities that were shady to say the least, and most bordering on being down right dishonest.

Often the were opportunities cleverly designed to part the unwary from their money.

However, a few years back I was fortunate enough to come across a training platform that was different.

It wasn’t being promoted as a business opportunity, because technically it isn’t.

I scouted around, did a bit of due diligence and to be honest totally ignored it for quite a while. Why?… Simply because it wasn’t hyped up and trying to grab my attention with all the bells and whistles.

One day I read a review on how this platform was teaching people from all walks of life and in multiple different businesses how to properly and profitably set up and run an online enterprise, and over the years it has become more relevant and useful.
