Google Digital Garage was created by Google in 2015 as a non-profit program designed to help people learn and improve their digital skills.
It offers free training, courses and certifications via an online learning platform.
The courses are broken up into modules. The Google Digital Garage currently offers over 100 online courses on various subjects, under the following categories:
Digital Marketing ~ Data and Technology ~ Career Development.
When you register for a class in the Digital Garage, you get to learn at your own pace and in your own time. Unlike traditional classes and courses, there are no deadlines, nobody to submit reports to and no requirement to visit any learning centres, so it’s totally flexible.
All Google Digital Garage courses are free or offer digital certificates at an additional cost.
Who is this for?
Everyone. You can gain today’s most in-demand skills, whether you’re starting and growing your business, starting a career, or just want to try something new. The courses are clear, interactive, well laid out and easy to follow.
Why does google offer this?
Google would like you to think they are doing it to level up the knowledge gap around the globe. Does Google Digital Garage offer any other type of training?
Yes. As well as the core online training, they also conduct regular “Live” video training as well as local workshops where you can actually get to meet Google trainers who will help you first hand with your digital business growth plan and possibly identify different areas of growth or different strategies.
At the time of writing this article I was looking at upcoming workshops in places like Newport and Cambridgeshire, as well as various Live training events in UK time.
The beauty of this is that Google are global, so wherever you live there will always be something planned in your time zone. No more waking up at 02.30am to join a live link from California for example.
What can I expect to learn?
The classes are broken up into individual modules. Once signed up you can choose which modules you want to learn, but a great place to start would be with the “Fundamentals of Digital Marketing” course.
This is quite a large course containing 26 short modules, but it’s a great place to start to get you a good grounding in digital marketing. Plus it also comes with certification once you’ve completed all the modules.
From there you could quickly complete the shorter modules in “Get a Business Online” and “Make Sure Your Customers Find You Online”.

How do I sign up and start learning?
First off visit https://learndigital.withgoogle.com/digitalgarage/
You can register with your Google account or another email address, and after registering Google will ask you for your name and email preferences.
Once registered, you’ll need to accept Google’s terms of service and you’ll then be taken to the “My Learning Plan” section. Here you can search for classes and add them to your plan, or Google will make some suggestions for you based on popular searches.
There are also various filters on course type, length, difficulty, provider etc.
So there you have it. Industry class training provided by the world’s most popular search engine, and all totally FREE…
The world of digital marketing is now open for everyone, so there really is no valid reason to use the fear or lack of tech knowledge as an excuse for not pushing forward with your Home Enterprise and Online Business.
